According to the context of Ayurveda, the body is composed of three elements often referred to as dosha, which are Vata dosha (air and ether), Kapha dosha (earth, water), Pitta dosha (water, fire). All these dosha ensures the proper functioning of the body and any imbalance in this body can cause diseases. Similarly, hernia is also a result of vitiated Vata dosha and to correct the Vata dosha in conditions like hernia and hydrocele, ayurvedic formulation like Vridhivadhika vati is given Vridhivadhika Vati is classical Ayurvedic medicine with properties. The main indication of this medicine is hydrocele. It is also beneficial in hernia, tumor and abnormal cell growth in body. This is Rasa Aushadhi. The main ingredient of Rasa Aushadhi is Shuddha Parada along with the other components. Parad or mercury is used only after proper purification which is done by Shodhana, Mardana (grinding), Swedana (vapourising), Prakshalana (performing frequent ablutions), Galana (straining fluids), etc. The processing detoxifies mercury and brings about the physical and chemical changes in the drug, thus enhance their therapeutic efficacy.
Ingredients of Vridhivadhika Vati: Shuddha Parad, Shuddha Gandhak, Loha Bhasma, Vanga Bhasma, Tamra Bhasma, Kansya Bhasma, Hartal Bhasma, Nila Thotha Bhasma, Shankh Bhasma, Kapardak (Kapardika) Bhasma, Sonth (Dried Ginger) – Zingiber Officinale, Black Pepper, Long Pepper, Haritaki – Terminalia Chebula, Amalaki – Emblica Officinalis Chavya, Kachur, Vaividang, Vidha ke Beej, Pipalamool, Patha, Hauber, Vacha (Sweet Flag) – Acorus Calamus Elaichi Deodara Sumudar Namak, Sendha Namak, Sambhar Namak.

Dosage of Vridhivadhika Vati: Infants - NOT RECOMMENDED, Children - 125 mg, Adults - 125 to 375 mg, Pregnancy - CONTRAINDICATED Geriatric (Old age) - 125 to 250 mg
Precautions : Avoid Tea, Coffee, Alcohol, Fried, and Spicy Food, Chilies, Fast Foods
Dosage: Take 1 to 2 tablets twice daily after meals or as advised by the physician/Vaidya.
Caution: Spice, Oil, Stale and Heavy Food should be avoided. To be taken under medical supervision.
